Articles: Overview

The Articles module provides the functionality for creating and managing web site content (e.g., product announcements, product information, case histories, etc...).  Articles are linked to sections (i.e., menus).  The Administrator can assign different access levels (via the Roles Assignment module) to different users and groups for managing articles. 

 

Articles: View Articles

1.  Click on Articles menu. The Articles View page displays the following information for each article:

Title:  the article name
Author:  the article creator name (if provided)
Modified:  last modified date and time
Pending:  "Yes" indicates the article has not been approved  
Active:  "Yes" indicates the article has been approved to be published in the web site
Public:  "Yes" indicates the article can be viewed by all web site visitors
Read:  this number indicates how many times this article has been viewed

2.  To view details for a single article, click on the article name.  The following article information displays:

Created: the date the article was originally created
Modified: last modified date and time
Section: the name of the section that this article is linked to
Title:
the name of the article
Author: the article creator name (if provided)
Sub-Heading:  a subtitle (if provided)
Related Terms:  one or more keywords linked to this article for optimizing searches
Status:

Pending: the article is not approved yet
Active:  the article is approved to be published (the article is "live" on the web site)
Public:  the article is viewable by all web site visitors
Hidden:  this article has Section behavior "disabled"

Attributes: 

Contents:  Click the Abstract link to view the Abstract (intro) content. Click the Story link to view the Story (main) content.
Meta Description:  a description of the article to be used for search engine optimization.  This defaults to the Setup meta description and can be edited or replaced to give this Section a unique description.
Append Form to Article:   when the article is shown, if this is set, the specified form will appear below the article (e.g. a "call to action" form).

3.  You can click the Cancel button to return to the Articles View screen.  

Articles: Add an Article

1.  Click on the Articles menu. 
2.  Click the Add button and enter the following information:

Title (required)the article name
Author  - the author name
Sub-Heading - the subtitle for the article.
Related Terms - enter one or more keywords that will be used to search for related article content
Status - select one or more of the following options:

Pending: a check mark indicates the article has not yet been made public (viewable on the web site by all) (NOTE: Pending articles are hidden)
Active: a check mark indicates the new article is published on the web site
Public: a check mark indicates that the new article can be seen by all web site users
Hidden: a check mark indicates that the new article is ignored by any Section actions (e.g. showing all articles for a Section).

3. In the Contents area, click on Abstract to enter the Abstract text or click on Story to enter the Story text.
4. To add the article details, click the Update button. To cancel, click the Cancel button.

Articles: Find an Article
1.  Click on the Articles menu.  
2.  Type one or more keywords in the search box then click the Find button.  Article names that have matching keywords are listed.
Articles: Modify an Article
1.  Click on the Articles menu. 
2.  In the Title column, click on the Article name you want to make changes to. 
3.  Make changes.
4.  To save your changes, click the Update button.

Note:  The Reset button will clear the form.
Articles: Delete an Article
1.  Click on the Articles menu.  
2.  Select one or more articles to delete.
3.  Click the Delete button.
4.  To confirm the deletion click OK.  To cancel the deletion, click Cancel.

Articles: Order Articles
1.  Click on the Articles menu.  
2.  Click the Order button.   
3.  From the Select a Section box, select a section name.  The articles in the selected section are listed.
4.  Select an article then click the Move Up or Move Down button to reorder the articles.
5.  To save your changes, click the Update button.  To cancel your changes, click the Close button.
Articles: Change Article Status
1.  Click on the Articles menu. 
2.  Click the Status button on the toolbar at the top.
3.  Select a Status option (e.g. When you select Pending, articles with Pending status  are displayed under the Members List).
4.  To move an article(s) from the Members list to the Non-Members List, select the article(s) then click the >> button.
5.  To move an article(s) from the Non-Members List to the Members List, select the article(s) then click the << button.
5.  To save your changes, click the Update button.  To cancel your changes, click the Close button.
